The Many Uses of Scented Candles

Candles have always had their own charm. There is no dearth of modern lighting instruments which can lighten up your place fabulously, but the lights of candles have always, literally, remained close to a person's heart. These traditional means of removing the darkness have undergone significant changes in their forms and in the materials used in making them.  The old paraffin wax based candles that cause environmental pollution are now slowly giving way to  soy wax, palm wax, bees wax or some other environment-friendly material based candles which do not harm the environment in any way. This change has been ushered in by the growing consciousness among people for the environment. Similarly, the aesthetic instincts of the humans have found ways to make these more appealing to the senses. So, you have scented candles to give you the most pleasant aromas even as these light up spaces.

The making of scented candles is the same as that of the other candles with the only difference being the addition of the scented candle oils or essential oils to the melted wax. You can choose from among a number of aromatic oils/liquids available in the market that are specially made for candle making. If you want to add some colour, then the dyes for imparting the colours to the candles come in powder, liquid and block forms and these can be used to give the desired colour to the candle. Care shall be taken while melting the wax and pouring the oils in it because molten wax can catch on fire.

You can make scented candles to float on water which look stunning. The only thing you need to make sure for the floating candles is that the water is not disturbed and that the base of the candles is not wider than the top. You can have these as centre-pieces for the tables to give illuminance and, at the same time, enhance the romanticism of the candle-lit dinner. The floating candles in clear water and transparent bowls are used as decorative pieces for religious ceremonies, weddings, engagements and other occasions. To further decorate these, you can make use of ribbons, flower petals, glossy fabrics and number of other articles.

You need to only leave enough room for a layer of oil. You can also put something in the water, decorative items in the glass first, and you can color the water as desired (some packets of coloring are included). Pour a layer of oil on the water. Use any vegetable oil (not scented or olive oil). The oil will float on top (so it will not mix with the water). You determine how much, it must cover the surface. ½ inch of oil in a wine glass will provide about 25 hours of burn time. Tear a piece of kitchen paper towel (cotton fibers, not artificial) of about 1.2 by 1.2 inches. Roll it tightly into a small tube and cut with scissors to about 5/8 inch. Put this tube into the middle of the floater piece (the opening is there, do not try to make it bigger or anything) Let the piece fall gently into the bowl.
