What is the best fuel for a victorian oil lamp?

I have been given a victorian oil lamp. Whats the best and cheapest fuel to run it on? I have thought about paraffin but then i'm told this leaves a nasty smell. There is also "lamp oil" on ebay but this is really expensive and £4.99 for 1/2 a litre and would take a hell of a lot to fill the lamp up!

You have been mislead about the properties of paraffin oil. Paraffin oil is odorless and smokeless. We have used it successfully for decades and I highly recommend it.
