My mother was always so crafty. She taught me everything I know about crafts. I have so many amazing memories of our time together on weekends and during my summer break. As an artist today, I owe my mother greatly for my ability to express myself through art. Whether is it was making candle wicks or building canvas frames for our paintings, my mother was always about creating the art products herself. And, she had the right idea. When I go to the art supply stores today I can’t believe how high the prices are. This is why I buy the bare supplies myself online when I can.
This summer my daughter will be nine. I like to start thinking of projects for us to do early. This way it gives me time to collect the supplies needed for the different projects. My daughter is in love with candles now, so I have started to gather the supplies we will need for candle making. I bought some very nice candle wicks online yesterday. Candle wicks might seem like a simple and easy thing, but there actually aren’t. There are many different types of candles wicks. There are zinc core candle wicks, braided candle wicks, HTP candle wicks, and LX candle wicks just to name a few. We also need candle molds, candle wax and a large assortment of dyes. And, last but not least, we need some delightful fragrance oils. There are so many glorious fragrance oils to choose from and it really is difficult. Do you choose banana nut bread fragrance, or orange blossom? Cucumber melon or Pina colada? There are just so many choices! What I have decided to do is to order about a dozen fragrance oils to go along with the wicks, wax, dyes and molds. What we don’t use will go into storage for next summer.
Having these fun craft days with your children can be fun and relaxing. They will remember these experiences for their lifetime and it truly is a great time to teach them a few things and make some nice memories. Don’t forget to take pictures! Also, if you plan ahead, you can save a significant amount of money by shopping online. I shop around from one internet retailer to the next until I find an amazing deal. Some candle making supply websites even offer free shipping. As a side note, this is also a good time to teach your children about fire safety and the respect they will have to have for candles.
