Tips for making soy candles
Ever wanted to make your own candles? Many people I talk to have, but I think it's too much of a hassle, or too time consuming. Outlined here is an easy way to start making your candles. Cleaning is easy, and in no time at all you have a house filled with the warmth they offer candles.
Soy candles have become the rage. Many people prefer soy to the usual paraffin wax such as soy - beeswax, at best, is all natural. There is no real evidence that soy candles burn cleaner than paraffin candles, but still, many people are going for products that are as stated, all natural.
Making soy candles is easy. Soy wax is generally used to make high, such as pillar candles soy wax is mostly hand, much softer than paraffin wax. However, many people are mixed soy wax with other dried wax stronger, as ... paraffin or beeswax.
When you start making candles as a hobby or a career, soy candles are a good place to start. One reason is that most of the time you will be putting melted soy wax in a container. Working with soy wax is much easier to work with paraffin wax, and is much easier to clean up as well. All tools and supplies can be purchased at any hobby shops or a variety of online sites. And for those containers, you can use almost anything. Let your imagination run wild.
You need a pound of wax, a container - either a mason jar or vase old art will have no problem. You also need an ounce fragrance or essential oil, stains and some wax wicks, cotton is preferred. The wax will come in either solid or flakes. Many people prefer the shape of the scale, as it melts very evenly. The fragrance is something that can really be creative. It is available in retail stores, but is much more enjoyable to create your personalized perfume. For a candle that is sixteen ounces, will have almost an ounce of perfume, depending on how hard you want the smell. The dyes come in different forms, as well, both solid wax, scale or concentrated liquid form. The easiest way to use wicks are those that come with a small metal cylinder at one end.
Start by heating the soy wax in a pan. Keep warm in the middle, and slowly melt the wax evenly. Once achieved, remove the pan from the heat and add fragrance, stirring all the time so it is evenly distributed. So if you are using dyes, now is the time to do it.
The next step is to pour the wax into the container, keeping the wick centered in the jar. Once the candle has been launched, will have to trim the wick to half an inch long. Now ... new candle burn, homemade soy, or surprise someone with a homemade gift, and enjoy!
